Siemens Foundation Names New Board Chairman

WASHINGTON – Dave Hopping, president of Siemens Building Technologies (BT) North America, and a 28-year veteran of the company, has been elected to serve as Chairman of the Siemens Foundation Board of Directors. The 7-member Board ensures the mission of the Siemens Foundation – to ignite and sustain today’s STEM workforce and tomorrow’s scientists and engineers – is effectively carried out. Hopping joined the Siemens Foundation board in 2016 and is an ardent supporter of the Foundation’s newest initiatives in STEM middle-skill education.

“I am truly honored to serve as chairman with such a great group of colleagues who are so passionate about this topic,” said Dave Hopping. “My division is working with more community colleges to develop training programs for the next generation of service technicians, who are the backbone of the building technologies industry.”

“We are incredibly excited to have Dave take on the leadership of the board of the Siemens Foundation,” said David Etzwiler, CEO of the Siemens Foundation. “His passion for building STEM middle-skill capabilities in our younger generations stems from the tremendous needs and opportunities he sees in his business and his customers’ businesses in every region of the country – he is committed to making us better.”

Hopping assumed the role of Chairman of the Siemens Foundation Board of Directors on November 1st. His career at Siemens began in 1989, and he has steadily held successive leadership positions in sales, operations and management across the country. In his current position as president of BT, he leads operational and commercial activities for Siemens’ broad portfolio of products and services across building automation, energy management, fire safety and security solutions for buildings, facilities and enterprises across all industries for the Americas.

Hopping formerly served on the board for Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry, the Alliance to Save Energy and UI LABS’ Cities project. He also served as the Chicago City Ambassador for Siemens Corporation, USA, and he is Siemens’ Executive Sponsor for the City of Chicago.

Located in BT’s North American corporate headquarters in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, USA, Hopping earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University.
