Joe Webb, 30
Branch Manager
Irby Electric
Joe started in the industry in 2015 in a sales/management training program and moved to Irby Electric in November 2021 as the quotations specialist. “In February of 2022, I was promoted to team lead before I was officially named branch manager in June 2022,” he said.
Asked what drew him to the industry, Joe explained, “I left college searching for a training program to teach me about a company/industry. The electrical industry appealed to me due to it being a personal/relationship-driven business with a ton of career mobility.”
What challenge does Joe see the industry currently facing? “Training the new wave of personnel entering the business,” he said. “Our business has great training tools to learn product, but there isn’t a handbook on how to learn the industry. To overcome this challenge, we are hiring young enthusiastic employees into entry-level roles and training/promoting from within.”
As for his future career goals, Joe is working toward a district manager position by “working on my coaching skills, learning about the industrial side of our business, and developing my leadership skills via trainings,” he said.
To someone just entering the industry, Joe has this advice: “Apply yourself and learn as much as you can. The best way to learn this industry is to jump in with two feet and work hard. Hard work will always take you to great places.”
When he’s not working, Joe enjoys golf and travel.
