SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Power management company Eaton announced that Sun Life Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins, University of Miami and the Orange Bowl, plans to implement an advanced light-emitting diode (LED) system designed to enhance the viewing experiences for stadium spectators and television audiences, while reducing energy use by as much as 75 percent. The new Ephesus Lighting LED system will be implemented for the beginning of the 2016 NFL football season.
The new LED system, with its instant-on capability, eliminates the warm-up period associated with more traditional bulb-based lighting such as metal halide products. This contributes to an enhanced fan viewing experience and enables venues to instantly resume lighting after concerts and other non-sports events and halftime shows.
“As we researched LED lighting options in the marketplace that would help us transform Sun Life Stadium, it became evident that the digital lighting solution developed by Eaton’s Ephesus Lighting was a very competitive, well-engineered system that would meet our unique and specific needs,” Miami Dolphins senior vice president of stadium renovations Bill Senn said.
The Ephesus LED lighting system is brighter than the previous system and through its industry-leading glare-control innovations, its fixtures shine more uniformly on the playing surface, creating a better stage for players and fans both in the stadium and those watching on high-definition television. The versatility of an LED system also allows for operational flexibility and the creation of programmable light shows for fan entertainment. Ephesus LED solutions are easy to install, virtually maintenance-free for years and offer facilities the lowest total operating costs compared to other sports lighting systems.
“Since 2012, when we installed the first LED lighting system in a North American sports arena, facility operators have come to understand that our digital lighting solutions create the optimal stage for fans and performers,” said Mike Lorenz, president, Eaton’s Ephesus Lighting business. “Our success at venues of various sizes has established a new standard of what fans, performers, television broadcasters and facility operators expect from lighting.”
