NEW YORK (AP) — The former chief financial officer for Siemens Argentina has pleaded guilty to conspiring to pay $100 million in bribes to senior Argentine government officials.
Andres Truppel of Buenos Aires, Argentina, entered the plea Wednesday in Manhattan federal court.
The 60-year-old citizen of Argentina and Germany pleaded guilty to conspiracy before federal Judge Denise Cote.
U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara (buh-RAH’-ruh) says a massive Siemens bribery conspiracy lasted over a decade. He says Truppel and others funneled close to $100 million in bribes to government officials to secure a billion-dollar contract with the Argentinian government to produce national identity cards.
No sentencing date was set.
Siemens Argentina is a subsidiary of Siemens AG.
Siemens AG will pay $448 million and Siemens Argentina will pay $500,000 in a deal each reached with prosecutors.
