CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — For the third consecutive year, Van Meter Inc., an electrical and automation distributor based in Iowa, is named to Training Magazine’s “Training Top 125” list. The international ranking was announced at Training Magazine’s 2018 Conference & Expo in Atlanta, Ga. The ranking is conducted annually to assess and recognize excellence in employer-sponsored training and development programs.
Van Meter claimed the 96th spot for 2018 (up from 106 in 2017), joining companies like Aetna, Inc., DaVita, Edward Jones, Best Buy, MasterCard, New York Community Bancorp, Walmart and more. Van Meter is one of only two Iowa-based companies recognized in 2018.
“We help our people be their personal best,” said Alicia Murphy, Chief Organizational Effectiveness Officer at Van Meter. “Through our comprehensive learning and development programming our employee-owners are well-trained and skilled so that they can be their best at work, and optimize our business success.”
Now in its 18th year, the Training Top 125 is the only report that ranks companies unsurpassed in harnessing human capital. Rankings are determined by assessing a range of qualitative and quantitative factors, including financial investment in employee development, the scope of development programs, and how closely such development efforts are linked to business goals and objectives.
Van Meter continually invests in employee-owner education and training. The company offers live trainings communicated through an annual training calendar and online courses through a Learning Management System. Additionally, employee-owners are encouraged to pursue development through offsite conferences and training courses, as well as tuition reimbursement for ongoing education. Other highlights include a leadership development program and an annual internship experience.
“As a 100% employee-owned company, we believe our greatest asset is our people. Our success in training is due to our commitment to helping our people be their best. Our people are our greatest asset, and we invest in them.” said Jenn Bleil, Manager of Learning and Development at Van Meter. “We believe that well-trained and skilled employee-owners make better decisions and optimize our business success. Employee-owners who are learning and growing are much more satisfied and engaged personally and professionally.”
