The electroindustry is rapidly evolving. Electrification, digitalization, globalization, environmental concerns, workforce development, changing business conditions, and disruptive technologies are both opportunities and challenges for electrical manufacturers.
The NEMA Board of Governors established the Strategic Initiatives program to seize these emerging market opportunities, solve impending challenges, and prepare for the future. Since the program’s inception, NEMA has tackled such strategic issues as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, high-performance buildings, the Internet of Things, international trade and counterfeiting, and much more.
Each year, NEMA solicits input from its members on what the following year’s Strategic Initiatives should be. The proposals are vetted by NEMA Members and ultimately approved by the Board of Governors. These strategically important projects, limited in duration to one to four years, are cross-cutting and therefore are not always identified or pursued in the course of the product- and Section-specific operations of NEMA.
All NEMA Members are encouraged to submit ideas for 2022 Strategic Initiatives. Proposals will be evaluated by NEMA Members and the Board of Governors and finalized in July. More information on current initiatives and examples of past initiatives are online at www.nema.org/si. Past SI deliverables are available to NEMA Members only at www.nema.org/groups/view/strat.
