Van Meter Streamlines Cedar Rapids Counter Sales Process

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Starting July 1, Van Meter will offer customers a more streamlined counter sales experience at its central distribution center (CDC) in Cedar Rapids by consolidating its counter sales and will call areas.

After consolidation, the current storefront will be used to house an increased inventory of commonly purchased items near the counter allowing for efficient order picking. “We understand the importance of getting customers what they need and back to their job site as quickly as possible,” said Van Meter’s Regional Customer Service Manager, Brandon Riley.

“We’re also seeing increased utilization of technology by our customers,” added Riley. “They see the value in calling ahead or placing orders online, eliminating non-productive wait times. With more than $75 million of electrical, mechanical, and automation products in stock in Cedar Rapids, advance notice –even 30 minutes—can make a big difference. We can have products picked and waiting for them when they arrive, and they can simply enter our drive-thru lane where they can sign for and pick up an order without leaving their vehicle.”

While the counter area will look different, Van Meter customers can still walk in the will-call entrance to place an order at the counter and enjoy the same amenities they are used to. There will be a waiting area where customers can use the restroom and grab popcorn and refreshments while they wait for their orders to be fulfilled.

Updated facility signage will guide customers on where to go.

“We’re committed to creating efficiencies and evolving our customer experience. Our customers do important work in our community, and this change will give them more time in their day to make an even bigger impact,” said Riley.
