PARIS, France — GE Vernova Inc. and LS Electric have signed an agreement to establish a joint venture named “Grid X Technology.” Announced at the CIGRE 2026 event in Paris, the partnership combines GE Vernova’s advanced Voltage-Sourced Converter (VSC)-HVDC technology with LS ELECTRIC’s localized capabilities to secure domestic grid contracts and expand into the global market.
As the only manufacturer in Korea with commercial HVDC equipment delivery experience, LS ELECTRIC brings a distinct competitive advantage built on major domestic infrastructure milestones:
- The Bukdangjin–Godeok Project: The company successfully delivered main equipment for Korea’s very first commercial HVDC initiative.
- The East Coast–Seoul Metropolitan Area Project: LS ELECTRIC is currently leveraging its engineering know-how to supply critical components for this major transmission line.
- The West Coast Energy Highway: The new joint venture will directly support this high-priority national grid project, designed to transmit large-scale renewable energy from the Honam region and western coast to the metropolitan area.
To ensure supply chain stability, LS ELECTRIC operates Korea’s largest HVDC production hub at its Busan factory. The facility features a fully integrated production system that manages the complete lifecycle—including design, manufacturing, and performance testing—of critical equipment like converter transformers (C-TRs), allowing for rapid, reliable project execution.
