Annual revenues for custom electronic installations are between $13 billion and $14 billion, according to CEDIA, as relayed by CE Pro magazine. Another claim—20,000 to 22,500 U.S. companies “are installing CEDIA portfolio products in residential environments.”

The cover story on a recent issue of Security Distributing & Marketing was “State of the Market: Alarm Systems”—an article about the challenges and opportunities the alarm industry is facing.

Telecom

The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) recently gave its 2012 Market Review & Forecast Overview. The market is $4.7 trillion.

According to a TIA news release, U.S. networking infrastructure spending is to hit $300 billion by 2015.

The news release also includes the following key facts:

  • Global Internet traffic will quadruple by 2015
  • In five years, mobile broadband traffic will be 35 times current levels
  • U.S. spending on wireless and wired network infrastructure will grow to $296 billion by 2015
  • The Middle East/Africa region will have 10% growth in telecom spending through 2015, followed by Asia Pacific at 9.5% and Latin America at 7.5%
  • Spending on U.S. IT-based cloud computing will be the fastest-growing category

Key facts related to this trend include:

  • In 2013 consumers will spend $108 billion on wireless data and $91.5 billion on wireless voice
  • In 2011 consumers spent $73.6 billion on wireless data and $102.3 billion on wireless voice
  • In Q4 2010, there were 101 million mobile broadband-dependent smartphones sold—versus 92 million PCs
