Scott Newton, a counter sales associate at Mayer-Calhoun, Georgia, stepped in to save a boy’s life a few weeks ago.
According to a company news release, as Newton was locking down the store he heard a woman screaming outside. The woman was shaking a little boy who was turning blue and appeared to be choking. Newton ran to the rescue. He turned the little boy over and tapped him on the back a few times until the boy spit out a large piece of hard candy that had apparently lodged in his throat. The woman was thankful Newton stepped in to help. The company noted that Newton is a humble individual and told them he did what anyone would do in that situation.

David Callaway, Mayer-Calhoun’s branch manager, said that while Newton doesn’t think of himself as a hero, customers already consider him as such in his duties every day serving them, sourcing difficult to find items and getting them delivered on time.
