Catching Up with the 30 Under 35: Javey Glass

We’re catching up with our previous “30 Under 35” winners to see where they are now and how their perspective has changed since being named one of the rising stars of the electrical industry.

Today, we talk with Javey Glass, a 2014 honoree.

Javey Glass

What is your current position?

Outside Sales, Electric Supply Incorporated.

What has been the reaction from co-workers and people in the industry to your “30 Under 35” award?

The reaction I have received has been good. Co-workers and people in the industry have been very supportive through this process. They have warm heartily congratulated me, which is very humbling.

What advice would you give young professionals about electrical distribution?

If I had to give advice to young professionals, I would tell them to continue to work hard, keep a positive attitude, and you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.

What recruiting advice would you give companies when it comes to hiring great, young talent?

I would advise them to make sure them have a strong code of ethics, fun family-oriented atmosphere, a low turnover rate, and a strategic training program put in place for those young talented people who are looking to advance in their careers.

How important was your mentoring (and reverse mentoring) when it comes to furthering your career?

Mentors have played a big role in my career. I have been blessed to have many positive people throughout my career that have helped me through giving me good advice, as well as setting positive examples for me to learn from. I have also learned a lot of what not to do, by learning from other people’s mistakes.

What do you see in the future of electrical distribution when it comes to technology and business practices?

I feel it is important to “keep up with the times” when it comes to technology in our industry. You never want to fall too far behind the eight ball or be the last distributor in your market to make a technology advancement that might help your company grow or operate more efficiently. As far as what the future will hold for the electrical distribution industry when it comes to technology and business practices… Only time will tell.
