DUBLIN, Ireland — Power management company Eaton announced Taras “Terry” Szmagala, Jr. has been appointed senior vice president, Public & Community Affairs. He succeeds Barry Doggett who will retire December 31. Szmagala will report to Mark McGuire, Eaton executive vice president and general counsel.
Szmagala will be responsible for representing Eaton with governments at the international, national and local level, as well as overseeing the company’s community involvement and corporate contributions programs. He previously served in positions of increasing responsibility in the Eaton Law Department.
“Terry’s extensive background and leadership skills will serve Eaton well as we face new challenges in an increasingly regulated world, while continuing our strong commitment to serve the communities in which we live and work,” said McGuire.
Szmagala joined Eaton in 2007 as chief counsel for the Fluid Power Group. In 2009 he was named vice president and chief counsel of the Industrial Sector and most recently served as senior vice president, deputy general counsel for Eaton. Prior to joining Eaton, Szmagala worked as group counsel with Avery Dennison Corporation and as an attorney with Squire Sanders in its Cleveland, Ohio; Washington, D.C.; and Kiev, Ukraine offices.
Szmagala has served in leadership roles in many community organizations, and is currently vice chairman of the board of University Circle Inc. He holds a B.A. degree from the University of Virginia and a J.D. degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
Doggett has served as the head of Eaton’s Public & Community Affairs function for the past 12 years. Prior to joining Eaton, Doggett was deputy director of Cleveland Tomorrow, and previously worked for BP America and its predecessor company, Standard Oil of Ohio.
“We thank Barry for his leadership and guidance over the past 12 years,” said McGuire. “Barry’s leadership and commitment to our communities will be missed, and we wish him well in his retirement.”
