Summit Electric
Supply’s CEO Victor R. Jury Jr. was recognized by the New Mexico Business
Weekly as a Top Performing CEO. Now in its fourth year, the awards honor New
Mexico leaders in three business categories for driving the success of their
companies and demonstrating vision and passion in the community.
Ian Anderson,
publisher of the New Mexico Business Weekly, said this year’s awards recognized
CEOs who showed “outstanding leadership during a time of great change” and who
fostered the strengths of his or her employees.

A team of five
notable individuals from the business community judged hundreds of nominations
and selected four winners and 16 honorees for recognition at an awards luncheon
on October 18 at the Hotel Albuquerque. Jury was one of two winners in
the large company category for businesses with more than 150 employees.
Jury founded
Summit in 1977 along with Victor Jury Sr. and David Meredith and became
president and CEO in 1990. Over the past 35 years, Summit has grown to rank 18th among the top electrical distribution companies in the nation. The company has
more than 550 employees and revenue for 2012 is expected to exceed $400
million.
“[Jury] has
great vision and is able to do the right thing at the right time,” says Rick
Wadley, formerly of Bank of America and now with Bank of the West. Wadley, who
began working with Jury when the company took out its first SBA loan, adds that
Jury has a sixth sense on when to pull the trigger.
Jury has
experienced several of what he coins “bet the company” moments, including
integrating an internationally recognized system for tracking sales, inventory,
and accounting procedures (SAP), and acquiring another company that doubled the
size of Summit overnight.
In running a
company that does business worldwide, Jury looks for people who are “hungry,
humble, and smart.”
Looking for what
he calls “athletes,” Jury says, “We have certain procedures that, through trial
and error, have become known as our best practices. And that’s what we want
followed. But at the same time, you want an athlete who knows what to do when
there’s a bump in the road.”
