ABB, Eaton Receive ‘A’ Score for Transparency on Climate Change

Both ABB and Eaton have been recognized for leadership in corporate transparency and performance on climate change by the global environmental non-profit organization Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).

ABB was recognized for the second consecutive year, securing a place on its annual ‘A List’. ABB is one of a small number of companies that achieved an ‘A’ – out of over 22,000 companies scored. ABB also improved its CDP Water score to A-. Over 700 financial institutions with over US$142 trillion in assets requested companies disclose through CDP on climate change, forests and water security.

Anke Hampel, Group Head of Sustainability at ABB, said: “Inclusion in CDP’s A List for the second year is an important recognition of our strategic approach to sustainability. ABB has set ambitious net zero targets which were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in June 2024. These include short-term targets for 2030 as well as long-term targets for 2050 and cover ABB’s own as well as its value chain emissions. Our A- Water score is testament to our strengthened governance and supplier engagement on the topic of water risk.”

A detailed and independent methodology is used by CDP to assess companies, allocating a score of A to D- based on the comprehensiveness of disclosure, awareness and management of environmental risks and demonstration of best practices associated with environmental leadership, such as setting ambitious and meaningful targets. Those that do not disclose or provide insufficient information are scored an F.

Meanwhile, Eaton announced it has earned a Leadership Level designation from CDP, for the sixth consecutive year. Despite strengthened criteria each year, Eaton was rated an A in the climate category, making the company a top performer among industry peers.

“We are incredibly proud to have received our first A rating from CDP in over a decade,” said Harold Jones, chief sustainability officer and executive vice president, Eaton Business System, Eaton. “This is a testament to our greenhouse gas reduction efforts and continued openness and transparency about our progress on climate actions.”

Of the 22,400 companies that received a climate score from CDP, only 2% earned an A rating. As part of Eaton’s dedication to transparency, the company has been reporting to CDP since 2006.
