Mayer Electric announced today that Glenn Goedecke will be leaving the company after 32 years of loyal and exemplary service to acquire and run a business of his own.
Goedecke served as Chairman of NAED in 2015-2016.
As Glenn relates, “Seeing that our company has a strong management team in place, and seeing that the company’s future looks bright and prosperous has afforded me the opportunity, as well as given me the confidence, to reflect on some of my own personal goals and ambitions. I have always quietly dreamed of becoming an entrepreneur and challenging myself to build something on my own; and now, while I’m still relatively young and the company is in good hands, seems like the perfect time to do so.
“So, after a good deal of deliberation, soul searching, consulting with my immediate family, as well as members of our Advisory Board, I have decided to acquire a small business and pursue my dream. I plan to take advantage of the expertise and experience I have gained and apply it to a smaller company and in a different industry.”
According to Wes Smith, “The lasting, positive impact of Glenn’s many contributions to Mayer and the electrical industry will continue for many, many years to come. Few people in this industry have had a greater impact than Glenn through his unselfish mentorship, friendship, and service to so many. At Mayer, we often speak of associates achieving their personal and business goals. The opportunity for Glenn to pursue his personal and business goal of owning his own business is exciting, and we could not be happier for him to start this new journey. “
Glenn joined the company in 1986, after working as an Outside Industrial Salesman with Litscher Electric in Holland, Michigan. Again, as Glenn relates, “I started my career in the electrical distribution industry at Litscher Electric rewinding motors. I quickly elevated through the ranks and received a promotion to Outside Industrial Sales. Litscher gave me the opportunity to work outside the family business and determine if the industry was going to be a good fit. Within two years, the Mayer family came calling and the interview process began—ultimately ending with a position at our location in Tampa, Florida, as an Outside Industrial Salesperson. I was happy to say, ‘Yes,’ since both Nancy and I were eager to help the family business grow, as well as support our extended family.”
During his 30+ year tenure at Mayer, Glenn held increasingly responsible positions at Mayer: including positions in sales, operations, management, and senior management. “Looking back,” reflects Glenn, “it is truly remarkable what we have been able to accomplish over that period. Mayer now conducts business in 14 states, has grown and diversified the number of markets it serves, and, as of this past year, is just shy of doing $1 billion dollars in annual sales.
“On a more personal note, I fully credit these positions and experiences for helping to prepare me to serve as Chairman of NAED, where I felt successful in leaving a legacy of “Strategic Planning” for the Association for the first time in its history. Today it drives the Association’s mission and vision into the future. I have truly enjoyed my years at Mayer and feel very fortunate to have met and worked with so many wonderful people. Our associates, our customers and our suppliers are all best of class, and I can only hope that I played a small part in helping to create such a professional environment.”
Glenn will be with the company through the end of April.
