LAUREL, Maryland — IEC Chesapeake hosted over 120 men and women in various facets of the electrical industry for the 2nd Annual Safety Fest. Partnering with SEE, Inc. and Preferred Insurance Services, Inc., the event offers free seminars and resources to help increase on-the-job safety and make safety a central concern for electrical contractors and employees. This is the second year the event sold out.
This year, Safety Fest offered a total of 20 different classes and two educational tracks. The first was geared towards Human Resources professionals, and included topics such as Controlling Insurance Costs, Heath Care Basics, and Injury Breakdown. The second track was intended specifically for electricians, and included topics like Basic Electrical Safety, Lockout / Tagout, High Voltage Safety Awareness, and Arc Flash. Classes were kept shorter this year to allow participants to attend multiple topics.
The event also included a luncheon, which allowed contractors and electricians to network with other IEC Chesapeake industry members surrounding the topic of safety.
“Safety should be the most important aspect of any company, especially in the construction industry,” explains Alice Haines, the Continuing Education Coordinator at IEC Chesapeake. “A comprehensive safety program can save time, money, and most importantly lives.”
