The Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) recently promoted Brienne Musselman (formerly Willcock) to Director of Education.
Musselman joined the IES staff in April of 2019 as Education Coordinator and was previously promoted to Education Manager. During her tenure at the IES, Musselman has played a critical role in modernizing the delivery of the Society’s educational content. She has a knack for recognizing the broad range of experience and knowledge of which the lighting profession is comprised, and has generated an impressive variety of relevant educational content as a result. Musselman was instrumental in the development and implementation of the e-learning portal which now, thanks to her efforts, is home to over 240 education programs. She is also credited with co-creating and launching Introduction to Lighting, a seven-module course that provides insight into the technology and practice of lighting.
In her role as Director of Education, Musselman will continue to oversee all of the IES’s educational resources while identifying opportunities for enhancing existing content, expanding offerings, and partnering with like-minded organizations to deliver additional education. Her goals include simplifying the CEU process, updating the IES Fundamentals of Lighting course, and partnering with internal stakeholders, along with the Educational Advisory Panel, to ensure that future IES educational programs align with the organization’s other areas of expertise and focus (including standards, research, membership and more).
The IES Board President, Antonio Garza, shares, “Brienne has been an integral part of the IES since joining the staff. She brings a high level of insight, experience and dedication that benefits our members and the lighting community at large. This is a well-deserved promotion, and we are excited to see what the future of IES education will be with Brienne at the helm.”
Musselman graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a dual bachelor of science degree in Art & Human Environments and Interior Design. Musselman is also Lighting Certified (LC) and has won numerous industry awards. Prior to joining the staff, she was a member of IES for over seven years and has an extensive history of volunteerism with the Society.
