The REINS Act (H.R. 367) will be brought to the floor of the House of Representatives this week as part of a package of 10 bills the GOP leadership is supporting as part of their “Stop Government Abuse Week”. The REINS Act would require Congress to pass joint resolutions to approve major regulations, such as those that have annual economic effects of more than $100 million.
NAED has been supporting the REINS Act, which is designed to increase accountability in the regulatory process and improve congressional oversight. According to the bill, “By requiring a vote in Congress, this Act will result in more carefully drafted and detailed legislation, an improved regulatory process, and a legislative branch that is truly accountable to the people of the United States for the laws imposed upon them.”
The House is expected to vote on this bill Wednesday or Thursday. Take action! Send a letter to your legislators asking them to support the REINS Act.
