NEMA Appoints Vice President of Government Relations

ROSSLYN, Va. — The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) announced that Philip Squair will lead the Association’s advocacy and lobbying initiatives effective immediately. Formerly with the National Propane Gas Association, Squair is a seasoned association executive with expertise in policy, association governance, and staff leadership and development.

“Philip is a highly accomplished senior executive, and his experience in adjacent industries brings an invaluable perspective and sophisticated skills to advocate on behalf of electrical and medical imaging manufacturers,” says NEMA President and CEO Kevin Cosgriff. “We are very enthusiastic about him joining our team.”

Squair’s lobbying efforts for the propane gas industry resulted in the enactment of several federal laws over the years, including the Propane Education and Research Enhancement Act of 2014, the Home Heating Emergency Assistance Through Transportation Act of 2014 and the Reliable Home Heating Act of 2014. His agency advocacy work also helped to convince the Department of Transportation to implement regional hours of service exemptions and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to invoke emergency authority to prioritize shipments of propane for the first time in its history.

Squair’s background also includes positions with the U.S. House of Representatives and the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute. Squair graduated cum laude from Hillsdale College with a bachelor of arts degree in political economics and history.
