NAED is sad to announce the passing of Ray de Steiger, owner and chairman of Ray Electric and Ray Lighting Centers based in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
Ray is survived by his wife of 65 years, Virginia or “Ginny.” He also has four children, many of whom are employees of Ray Electric. His son David serves on the NAED South Central Region Council.
Ray graduated from East Detroit HS, later receiving his Bachelor’s Degree from Michigan State University in Business Administration. Ray Electric opened for business in 1927 by Ray de Steiger, Sr. Ray joined the business and worked alongside his father. They became members of NAED in 1965.
In addition to his work at Ray Electric, Ray and his wife Ginny were very active in the Rochester and Sterling Heights communities. They were named co-grand marshals of the Rochester Hometown Christmas Parade in 2012. Each year, the parade committee takes nominations for grand marshal, and they were overwhelmingly selected.
The de Steigers were also active in volunteer work in their community, offering both time and money to a number of organizations, including the Boy Scouts, the Rochester Rotary Club, Crittenton Hospital and the Avon Players, Oakland University, Meadow Brook Theater Guild, and the Community Foundation of Greater Rochester.
