ROCK HILL, S.C. — Connie Maxwell Children’s Ministries is a residential group home with five campuses across South Carolina. This ministry assists and houses disadvantaged children, providing care for families in need. On their Greenwood campus, one of the houses needed electrical upgrades. Hearing about the cause through one of their customers, City Electric Supply (CES) Rock Hill stepped up to help. The CES branch donated $1,000 worth of electrical supplies to the organization and helped get necessary upgrades completed within one week.
“Connie Maxwell provides various resources to over 100 children on our Greenwood campus alone,” said Sheila Price, Vice President of Communications for Connie Maxwell Children’s Ministries. “We needed materials to help improve multiple houses where the children live, and this donation from CES allowed us to make those upgrades.”
CES Rock Hill Branch Manager Eric Morgan compiled over 260 supplies from receptacles, switches, plates, covers, and more to load up and take to the Greenwood campus, over an hour away from the store. Eric and his team in Rock Hill found out about Connie Maxwell through one of their customers, who does community projects regularly through his church.
“A team of us went over to the Connie Maxwell campus and flipped the house in one week,” said Jason Shope, Owner of Shope Automotive. “We started on a Sunday evening and finished everything by Saturday—it’s amazing what we accomplished within that time frame.”
“We did all the electrical upgrades from the material CES donated, but we also painted the inside, put down new floors, and even updated a few other fixtures. We will continue going to Connie Maxwell and help out with other needed renovations. They do a lot of good work, and I enjoy being a part of that,” Jason added.
Altogether, the material donated was worth $1,000. The parts donated played an essential role in electrical safety in the houses, which was important to the CES team.
“The material we donated plays a big part in preventing things like hazardous shock,” said Eric. “Especially in places such as bathrooms where you have various plug-ins and kids getting in and out of the water, the GFCI’s we donated will help prevent the kids from getting those kinds of injuries for any reason.”
Donations and volunteer work are the reason Connie Maxwell can provide children with a variety of services tailored to their needs daily.
“As a non-profit, we rely on donations, and these are the best donations we can receive,” said Sheila. “We are so thankful for gifts like these because it lessens the burden when we need to purchase other things, especially around the holiday season. Connie Maxwell is blessed with some really great donors, and it means a lot to us to have CES Rock Hill make sure our kids are well taken care of.”
What was everyone’s favorite part of making the donation at CES Rock Hill? Getting to see the end result.
“After finishing the upgrades, Connie Maxwell sent us a few photos of the crew and kids in front of the sign. It felt great receiving that picture and showing my team,” said Eric. “It feels good to know that we can give back to the community in this way and help others who might need it. My team and I are excited to keep up to date on the other houses and see how we can help out at Connie Maxwell next.”
