On January 29,1923, M.B. Turtle and A.W. Hughes formed a partnership as distributors and jobbers of electrical supplies and equipment under the name of Turtle & Hughes. One small truck made its customer rounds through the narrow streets of Lower Manhattan servicing small businesses and commercial accounts in the financial district south of Canal Street.
And, so began the story of Turtle & Hughes, which over four generations, has grown to one of the nation’s largest independent electrical and industrial distributors.
To mark this milestone, Turtle & Hughes created turtle100.com, a webpage devoted exclusively to the company’s rich history, people and projects. In addition to the historical video that follows the Turtle & Hughes trajectory from the infancy of electric energy to today’s innovations for a more sustainable future – you can explore a decade-by-decade historical timeline, project impact, an Employee Hall of Fame, and the four guiding principals that have endured for a century.
The webpage is just the beginning of a year-long Turtle & Hughes 100 Year Anniversary journey. Because a clear understanding of it’s past is one of the most powerful tools we have for shaping the future, throughout the year, Turtle & Hughes will share stories that celebrate the company’s history and the extraordinary employees who have made it possible for us to reach this milestone.
Turtle & Hughes posted on the turtle100.com website the following message: “The one thing that remains clear over the years is that we owe a great debt of gratitude to our customers and partners who have supported and trusted us with their business, and to our great family of employees who continually deliver on a century-old promise of exceptional service and innovative products and solutions.”
