2022 30 Under 35 Profile: Brayan Garcia

Brayan Garcia, 28
Sales Engineer
Siemens

Brayan joined Siemens in May 2016 as an intern during his senior year at NC State. Post internship he was offered a full-time position as an order engineer with the low voltage motor control center team where he designed complex MCCs in preparation for manufacturing. “After two-and-a-half years, I made a transition to become a bid coordinator in the construction market of central Texas,” he said. In August 2022 he transitioned to outside sales for the Tulsa, Okla., and northwest Arkansas markets.

“After completing my electrical engineering degree, transitioning to power distribution was natural—almost expected,” Brayan noted. “I’ve always enjoyed solving technical problems and my job now is to find solutions that truly affect the community around me. Being part of the development of my community is satisfying and I am grateful to be in the position I am.”

Asked about a problem the industry is currently facing, Brayan pointed to rising costs associated with rebuilding the electrical infrastructure. “Couple that with extended lead times and it puts our grid in a vulnerable position,” he said. “Natural or unnatural events could cripple the electrical infrastructure of our cities. Part of our mission at Siemens is being a leader in the digital transformation of this industry. We hope to create an ecosystem that better prepares us for the unknown with preventive actions and designs adapting to sustainable practices.”

Brayan’s next career goal is currently underway: a new role in outside sales. “I’ve been working in the industry for a while, so I was ready to challenge myself,” he said. “There is no amount of preparation that will prepare you for growth. You just must trust in yourself and do the best you can at every opportunity. Growth happens through uncomfortable situations you submerge yourself in.”

What would Brayan tell someone just entering the industry? “Be curious about your customers and your products,” he said. “Learn to listen intentionally, doing so will lead you to the true solutions. Lastly, don’t be afraid to say you don’t know an answer—be afraid of giving up because you don’t know.”

Outside of work, Brayan has interests in the real estate market and likes to travel and spend time exploring when he gets an opportunity. “I also always have a side project car/motorcycle that I tinker with,” he noted.
