2023 30 Under 35 Profile: Aaron St. John

Aaron St. John, 31
Outside Sales/Account Manager
Rexel/Gexpro

Aaron has been in the electrical industry for nine years—six of them with Rexel/Gexpro. “I’ve been an outside sales rep for my entire tenure with Rexel/Gexpro,” he said. “I have also taken on a mentorship role amongst some fellow outside sales individuals as well as members of our Gulf Central ACE program.”

Asked about his entry into the industry, Aaron said “Both my father and grandfather spent their careers in the electrical industry, and it seemed a natural progression.” Asked what appeals to him about electrical distribution, Aaron said “As a new hire this business allows for a variety of opportunities and to truly see how our world works. The appeal for me is that every day is different and new with the ability to make a difference.”

Aaron identified the experience gap within the industry as one of its biggest challenges. “I strive each day to further engage and communicate with our lesser experienced colleagues,” he said, noting that this means “offering advice, mentorship, and guidance whenever possible to help them advance in their career and service customers to the best of their abilities.”

As for his career goals, Aaron said “I want to be an asset on a scale larger than myself. To be able to provide support and leadership that will help in elevating everyone around me. I am not sure what that looks like yet, but I will continue to grow and learn in the meantime.”

What would Aaron say to someone just entering the industry: “Ask questions, be engaged, and commit to learning and soaking up every experience along the way,” he said.

When he’s not working, Aaron enjoys being active. “Whether it is hiking, running, softball, pickleball, ping-pong, or humiliating my coworkers on the Peloton,” he laughed.
