Tyler Petty, 29
Branch Manager
Elliott Electric Supply
Tyler began his career with Elliott Electric Supply in the summer of 2014 as a part-time warehouse associate at the company’s Austin Regional Distribution Center. “I took that job after completing my junior year of high school,” he noted. “I returned the following summer and have been with Elliott ever since.
“I consider myself fortunate because unlike many in our industry, I did not stumble into it,” he added. “I grew up around it. My dad began his career with Elliott four years before I was born, so I often joke that I was born into the industry. Watching his career growth and the opportunities Elliott provided our family made a strong impression on me from an early age. I knew I wanted to build a career here.”
When Tyler enrolled at Texas A&M University, he transferred to the Bryan, Texas, branch, where he progressed through several roles including warehouse associate, will call counter, counter sales, and inventory management for the Houston area during his senior year. “In that inventory role, I focused primarily on reducing dead stock and managing excess inventory,” he explained. “During my college summers, I also completed two internship programs, including a rotational internship in Austin and an internship in Houston that included time supporting new market openings in Atlanta and Phoenix.”
After graduating and getting married, Tyler and his wife, Caitlin, relocated to Phoenix. “I was promoted to inside sales while completing Elliott’s Leadership Development Program,” he said. “In 2020, I opened our Gilbert, Ariz., branch as Branch Manager. In December 2021, I moved back to Texas to lead our New Braunfels branch, where we experienced significant growth and opened a second location in Dripping Springs in 2022. In January 2025, I transitioned to lead our North Austin and Drippings Springs branches, where I currently serve as branch manager.”
Asked what continues to appeal to him about the industry, Tyler said “When I officially joined the company, it was entering a major growth phase, expanding into new markets like Atlanta and Phoenix. The opportunity to help build something new was incredibly exciting. I quickly saw that hard work, initiative, and raising your hand for new opportunities could lead to a rewarding and dynamic career.
“What continues to appeal to me is the variety and autonomy,” he continued. “No two days are the same. There is always a new challenge to solve. Elliott empowers branch managers to make decisions, grow their businesses, and operate entrepreneurially while remaining accountable for profitability. That level of trust and ownership is incredibly motivating.”
Looking ahead, Tyler’s near-term focus is on continuing to grow the company’s presence in the Austin market. “There is still significant untapped market share, and I am excited about the opportunity to expand both revenue and profitability,” he said. “Long-term, I aspire to move into an area level leadership role or beyond. Elliott has a strong culture of promoting from within, and I am committed to preparing myself by developing strong teams, driving consistent results, and continuing to learn from the leaders around me. The exciting part about Elliott is that opportunities often arise when you least expect them, and I want to be ready when the next one comes.”
What would Tyler tell someone just entering the industry? “I would encourage them to appreciate each stage of the journey,” he said. “Every role, whether in the warehouse, at the counter, or in sales, builds skills that you will use for the rest of your career. Looking back, there is something from every position I have held that still helps me today as a branch manager. One of the best pieces of advice I have received is to treat everyone as if they are the owner of your largest customer. You never know who is going to grow into a key decision maker or industry leader. Relationships and reputation matter tremendously in this business.”
Outside of work, Tyler noted that he and his wife—both graduates of Texas A&M University—have been football season ticket holders for the past three years. “Some of our favorite weekends are loading up the kids and heading to College Station for an Aggie football game,” he said. “Outside of that, most of our time revolves around our three children—two boys, Hayes and Sutton, and our daughter, Marigold, who was born in December 2025. With T-ball, soccer, swim lessons, and everything in between, they definitely keep us busy, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.”
