CLEVELAND, Ohio — More than 350 employees from power management company Eaton volunteered at Hiram House Camp Aug. 29 and 30, in conjunction with United Way of Greater Cleveland’s Days of Caring. Employees from six Eaton Greater Cleveland locations completed nearly 80 projects during the two-day event.
“As we embark on our next 100 years as a supporter of United Way, we strive to continue to lead the way to stronger communities,” said Eaton’s United Way campaign chair, Harold Jones, Eaton senior vice president, Environment, Health and Safety. “We appreciate the opportunity to contribute to the education of our community’s youth by partnering with Hiram House Camp for this year’s event.”
Over the course of the two day event, Eaton volunteers completed 78 projects including painting, carpentry, upgrading to energy efficient lighting, landscaping, restoring a basketball court, building a fire circle and recovering old-fashioned wagons for campers to sleep in.
“Hiram House was beyond thrilled to be selected for Eaton’s Days of Caring. Without a large number of volunteers we would not be able to do the work that we do and maintain our 172 acres,” said Courtney Guzy, executive director, Hiram House Camp. “I was amazed at the level of skill of Eaton’s volunteers and how beautifully they transformed our property. I cannot wait to see our campers running around and enjoying the handy work of Eaton. The children that attend our programs will benefit from this makeover for years to come.
Hiram House Camp is Ohio’s oldest camp and one of the earliest camps in the United States, offering a continuous summer program each year for well over a century. The mission of Hiram House is to enrich the lives of children through camping, providing the youth of our community with an opportunity to live, play and learn in an environment that is racially, ethnically and socio-economically diverse. Hiram House is committed to promoting family values, building character and opening new horizons for youth.
Days of Caring is a volunteer program run through United Way of Greater Cleveland that connects companies, organizations and individuals with United Way partner agencies and provides them with a hands-on opportunity to make a difference in their community.
