President Trump to Speak at NECA Show

President Trump to Speak at NECA Show

The National Electrical Contractor’s Association (NECA) has announced that for the first time in its 117-year history, a current President of the United States will attend the NECA event. The President is scheduled to speak during NECA’s general session on Tuesday. A White House official says the President will talk about the administration’s commitment to the workforce and small businesses growth. But you can also expect the President to talk about the upcoming mid-term elections, especially in Pennsylvania, where there is a contested U.S. Senate seat.

It will be an interesting crowd for the President. About a year ago,  NECA voiced its displeasure with the administration over a tariff on solar panels. NECA says the added cost will discourage builders from being able to install them, which will cost job opportunities. At the time, NECA President John Grau commented, “Solar energy is one of the most promising sectors in the American economy, providing good construction and manufacturing jobs and valuable products at a low cost to consumers. It’s been creating jobs for electricians who install utility scale and roof top solar systems around the country. These are good, middle-class jobs that promote apprenticeship, community based hiring, and veterans. All this progress would be placed at risk if the government decided to cut off the cells and modules that form the basic ingredients of the U.S. solar supply chain.”

Just last week, NECA showed its support for the President after the approval of the Keystone XL oil pipeline.

NECA did provide the following statement about the President’s visit to the NECA Show:

On behalf of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), we are honored to announce that President Donald Trump will be the first sitting U.S. President to address NECA in our 117-year history.

President Trump will join us in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania next week to address our Association comprised of businesses small and large on issues of critical importance to the electrical construction industry: the growing economy, tax reform, and apprenticeships. The current Administration’s undertakings in these areas are commendable and we have been proud to support their efforts to revitalize an otherwise challenging economic climate. These efforts have been highlighted by the numerous NECA contractors who have come forward to share their stories on the benefits of the Trump economy and the financial moves they have been able to make following the signing into law of the historic Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017.

The President’s visit comes on the heels of NECA signing the “Pledge to America’s Workers,” where we committed to create 60,000 job opportunities over the next five years. The President and his staff have taken note of the value and service NECA contractors perform every day to empower lives and communities throughout our great country. At a previous event held on July 31, 2018 in Tampa Florida, President Trump met NECA President David Long and described NECA a “tremendous force.”

We again are honored by his willingness to address our organization and eagerly look forward to finding areas where both the Administration and our Association can grow together.
