At the request of the U.S. Department of Energy, NECA has developed an in-depth and detailed training on the NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace, for not only electrical workers but also for electrical contractors. NECA teamed with the electrical training ALLIANCE, IBEW, and the DOE to develop an outline and framework and assembled a team of NFPA 70E instructors. A well-received pilot at the DOE headquarters exposed facility managers from most major DOE facilities to our program and reciprocity was easily achieved.
This achievement is significant for NECA, IBEW, and the electrical training ALLIANCE in that it places this NFPA 70E training program in high regard by a government organization that awards many electrical contracts to NECA members. The electrical training ALLIANCE also developed NFPA 70E training for electrical workers that has received DOE reciprocity.
It is a given that as NFPA 70E training requirements for electrical workers and electrical contractors become more and more common, NECA and IBEW are positioned nicely by having this comprehensive 70E training approved by the DOE. It helps electrical contractors that currently work at DOE facilities and provides significant business opportunities for those who may be awarded future contracts at these sites.
With this accomplishment and recognition from the DOE, NECA has, without a doubt, positioned its members in the best way possible to take advantage of excellent business opportunities. Once again, NECA and IBEW together with the electrical training ALLIANCE emerge as leaders and continue to demonstrate it in all aspects of the electrical construction business, especially the in the area of electrical safety training.
