HAMPSHIRE, Ill. — Minerallac Company installed a new 352 kW Ground Mounted solar array outside of its Hampshire headquarters, providing 100% solar power for the entire facility. With over 1,000 solar modules, this is the first ground-based solar array in the county and also the largest.
“The best part of this project was the ability to partner with one of the oldest and most respected electrical contractors in the area. Minerallac Company is celebrating our 125th anniversary in 2019 and we welcomed the opportunity to partner with a contractor whose history is almost as long as ours,” said Jim Hlavacek, Minerallac President.
“This was an easy decision. Solar energy not only made good business sense, but it fits in with our company’s commitment to finding more environmentally friendly ways of doing business. A 125 year old company cannot remain complacent and has to be forward-thinking with new technologies,” said Carl Moellenkamp, Chief Financial Officer.
State Senator Don DeWitte and State Representative Dan Ugaste attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 10, 2019, and praised the project.
The solar array is the latest addition in Minerallac Company’s efforts to “go green” and joins the recycling program and motion sensor lighting to reduce the energy consumption in the warehouse space.

Located in the northern suburbs of Chicago, this project is one of a growing number of ground-mount solar arrays coming to Illinois thanks to the Future Energy Jobs Act (FEJA). This solar project will save Minerallac upwards of $1.2 M over the 25-year life of the project.
