Charles Wampler Denny III (Charley) passed away on November 13, 2018.
Upon graduating with his MBA from Northwestern University in 1960, Charley joined his family’s company, The Barkelew Electric. Charley moved through a variety of positions before becoming plant manager when his father sold to the Square D Company in 1967. In 1972, Charley was promoted to the manager of Square D’s Circuit Breaker Division in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Then in 1985, he moved to Lexington, Kentucky as Vice President over the Distribution Equipment Group. He served in a number of positions both in Lexington and Palatine, Illinois. In 1991, Square D was purchased by the Schneider Group of Paris, France, and Charley was appointed President of Schneider North America. This organization included all of Schneider’s interests in the Americas, including Square D.
Charley served on many civic, charitable, and industrial boards. He retired in 2000 and thereafter he and his wife, Sandy, spent much of their time in Naples, Florida. He is survived by his wife, three sons, and six wonderful grandchildren.
