BROCKTON, Mass. – NorthEast Electrical, an electrical products and services distribution company servicing contractors in six states across New England, announced the launch of a scholarship program for eligible graduating high school seniors in the New England region. The program was designed by NorthEast Electrical’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee to demonstrate support for the trades and encourage workforce diversification in the vocational fields.
Frank Marandino, President of NorthEast Electrical, a Sonepar company, said, “We believe it is our responsibility to support, strengthen, and grow the communities we serve. With a desire to prepare young adults in our area to enter the workforce, we felt this was an ideal way to invest in their education and promote the electrical distribution industry as a great place to grow their careers.”
All applicants will be asked to write a short essay answering the question “What does diversity, equity and inclusion mean to you?” The deadline to submit is May 1, 2022. To promote the scholarship program, NorthEast Electrical has created a dedicated webpage. Flyers are currently being distributed at NorthEast Electrical branches and via sales associates in the field.
NorthEast Electrical manager and DEI Committee Member, Deshawn Fentress said, “NorthEast’s future is sustained by educating youth on the merits of the industry and solid careers they can have in the trades. I am proud to see NorthEast take this step.” As a local wrestling coach, Deshawn is a long-time supporter of youth in his community.
“It’s imperative we add talented, underrepresented individuals to our company and industry,” added Marandino. “We want our NorthEast Electrical workforce to be reflective of the customers we serve and benefit from diverse perspectives. As a company, we want to encourage diverse talent and open up opportunities for them.”
