Sources are reporting that Siemens Gamesa has claimed a partial victory in a U.S. patent infringement case taken against GE Renewable Energy over offshore turbines.
In the complaint, Siemens Gamesa alleged that GE’s offshore wind turbine Haliade-X infringed Siemens Gamesa’s offshore Direct Drive technology patents.
A jury in Boston last week found that GE infringed on one of Gamesa’s patents related to the structural support of large offshore wind turbines and awarded the company a royalty rate of USD 30,000 per megawatt, Siemens Gamesa said.
“Fair and legal competition is vital to the success of the renewable energy industry, both in the United States and around the world,” said Steve Dayney, Head of Offshore North America for Siemens Gamesa. “Siemens Gamesa welcomes the jury’s verdict on our patent.”
Siemens Gamesa and GE filed patent infringement complaints against each other in the United States back in 2020.
GE Renewable Energy made this statement in response to the ruling: ”The verdict found one of the patents was invalid and we did not infringe. We are reviewing our legal options related to the other patent and remain committed to the US offshore wind market.”
