FARGO, N.D. — Border States and Tampa Electric Company (TECO) have recently solidified a multi-year alliance agreement that will result in Border States establishing a branch in the Tampa, Florida, area.
Through this agreement, Border States and TECO will drive greater efficiency and savings through the integration of systems and people. The move will also mark a geographic expansion for Border States as they introduce their unique alliance strategy and organization to the market.
“Border States and TECO are a great fit for this alliance agreement due to the alignment of our cultures and our willingness to mutually invest to drive savings for TECO’s rate payers,” said Jeff Stauffer, VP — Strategic Alliances at Border States, adding that Border States has developed a strong framework for supporting their alliance customers. “Due to the hard work of each branch, our supply chain team, and the dedicated teams that serve our alliances, we have demonstrated that utilities that align with Border States had less supply chain disruption than those who went it alone.”
“Due to unprecedented issues during the last couple of years we need new ways to think about managing supply chains,” said Craig Penk, Director of Procurement, Warehousing and Stores at TECO. “With these challenges it has become imperative that we transition to a more resilient, scientific and collaborative approach to problem-solving. After careful consideration, we have chosen Border States as a key strategic partner, as we are confident that they are uniquely equipped to help TECO on this journey. We expect to leverage this relationship to improve our overall capabilities as well as to mitigate risk, optimize costs, and drive innovation. We are confident that the outcome will be an improved total cost of ownership and a more efficient and consistent approach to managing business processes.”
TECO has supplied the Tampa Bay area with electricity since 1899. The company services about 2,000 square miles in West Central Florida, including Hillsborough County and part of Polk, Pasco and Pinellas counties, which include more than 800,000 customers.
Border States supplies products and serves to construction, industrial and utility customers. The 100% employee-owned company is rated the sixth largest electrical distributor in the United States by Electrical Wholesaling magazine. Border States has more than 3,200 employees and 120 branches in 29 states. The Branch Support Center (corporate office) is in Fargo.
