NEMA’s Electroindustry Business Confidence Index (EBCI) dropped slightly in March. The change from February didn’t diminish the fact that the EBCI—which measures sentiment among manufacturers—remained at an extraordinarily high level.
With the reading on current conditions slipping 0.5 points, it still came in at a 72, way above the “50” dividing line between expansion and contraction.
And the “future North American conditions” index score was up 11 points to 86 for March. That’s the highest reading it has reached in one year. Where 55% of respondents a month ago saw six-months-ahead conditions improving to at least some degree, the March response was 72%.
