E.B. Horsman & Son, the largest independently owned and operated electrical wholesaler in Western Canada, achieved Platinum Club member status with Canada’s Best Managed Companies program by retaining its Best Managed designation for their seventh consecutive year. The Best Managed program recognizes Canadian-owned and managed companies with revenues over $10 million demonstrating strategy, capability and commitment to achieve sustainable growth.
“Best Managed companies embrace innovation, seize opportunities and inspire talent. They really set the bar high,” said Peter Brown, Partner, Deloitte and Co-Leader, Canada’s Best Managed Companies program. “Achieving Platinum Club member status with Canada’s Best Managed was in part due to our 2015 strategic initiatives which inspired our team in ways that only a nimble, independently owned business with strong balance sheet, trust in its team and a willingness to fail happily can,” said Tim Horsman, CEO and President, E.B. Horsman & Son. “Through our collaborative strategic planning process we were able to execute our most important initiatives which included exceeding market growth expansion into Alberta, preparing a talent management program for our growing employee base and growing our social responsibility in all markets. Whether focusing on the core or building new, it is truly amazing what our team can accomplish when given the ability to push our comfort zone and to create innovative and disruptive strategies for growth.”
Established in 1993, Canada’s Best Managed Companies is one of the country’s leading business awards programs recognizing Canadian-owned and managed companies that have implemented world-class business practices and created value in innovative ways. Applicants are evaluated by an independent judging panel on overall business performance, including leadership, strategy, core competencies, cross-functional collaboration throughout organization, and talent.
“For 116 years we’ve been guided by our core values of teamwork & collaboration, reliability, integrity, initiative and continuous improvement. These values have enabled us to be patient and focus on the long-term during economic churn while keeping us relevant to our best employees, best customers and best supplier partners. Achieving Platinum status with Canada’s Best Managed is a testament to our core values and demonstrates our commitment to being the Electrical Distributor of Choice!” said Horsman.
“Best Managed companies are strong in strategy, capability, commitment and financial performance. They are all great Canadian business success stories,” said Mike Runia, Ontario Managing Partner, Deloitte and Co-Leader, Canada’s Best Managed Companies program.
2015 winners of the Canada’s Best Managed Companies award, along with Requalified, Gold Standard, Gold Requalified winners and Platinum Club members will be honored at the annual Canada’s Best Managed Companies gala in Toronto on April 12, 2016. On the same date, the Best Managed symposium will address leading-edge business issues that are key to the success of today’s business leaders.
The Best Managed program is sponsored by Deloitte, CIBC, National Post, Smith School of Business and MacKay CEO Forums.
