Milwaukee-based Standard Electric Supply officially opened its expanded $4 million building expansion on Tuesday, September 19, along with a strategy to stay in Milwaukee for the future.
“This will allow us the space to ultimately double the size of the company and ensure that we can stay and do business in the City of Milwaukee for years to come,” Larry Stern, Standard Electric Supply President told the Urban Milwaukee Newspaper. “We are proud to remain in the city where my grandfather founded the business. Few family-owned businesses successfully make it to a third generation and we now know that the company will stay in Milwaukee as my children, our fourth generation, are coming into the company.”
Standard Electric Supply has been in Milwaukee since it first opened in 1919 and currently has 15 locations in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana. Stern served as the Chairman of the National Association of Electrical Distributors in 2016 through May of 2017.
The new building is part of Milwaukee’s “Valley 2.0” plan, which is designed to revitalize an area of the Menomonee Valley in the Milwaukee area. The new building has 21,000 square feet of office and warehouse expansion.
