Amazon Expands in Ontario with New Fulfillment Center

SEATTLE — Amazon announced plans for a new fulfillment center in Scarborough, in the City of Toronto. The 1-million square-foot facility will create more than 600 full-time jobs with comprehensive benefits. This will be Amazon’s twelfth fulfillment center in Canada, and seventh in Ontario, alongside existing Ontario operations facilities in Brampton, Mississauga, Milton, Caledon, and Ottawa. Amazon currently employs more than 4,000 full-time associates in Ontario and an additional 1,000 employees at its two Toronto tech hub locations.

“We’re excited about our growth in Toronto, which gives us the opportunity to better serve our customers in the region,” said Vibhore Arora, Director of Regional Operations of Amazon Canada. “The Greater Toronto Area has a talented workforce, and we are committed to providing the area with job opportunities that have great pay and benefits.”

Associates at this robotics facility will pick, pack, and ship small items to customers ranging from toys and baby products to small electronics.

“Business is booming in Ontario and today’s announcement by Amazon is further proof that our plan is working to make Ontario open for business and open for jobs,” said Ontario Premier Doug Ford. “We welcome Amazon’s continued investment in our province, and we will continue to make Ontario the best place for businesses to invest, grow, and create jobs for people.”

In total, Amazon employs more than 10,000 people working at fulfillment centers, corporate offices, development centers, and other facilities throughout Canada in Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and Quebec. In 2018, Amazon announced plans to create more than 6,000 new jobs across the country.

“We’re excited to welcome Amazon’s first fulfillment center in the City of Toronto and the more than 600 new, good jobs that will be created in Scarborough,” said Toronto Mayor John Tory. “This new facility, in addition to Amazon’s growing Tech Hub in our city’s downtown, shows that Amazon is continuing to invest in Toronto and the incredible workforce we have here.”
