SEATTLE — Amazon.com, Inc. announced plans to open its third Nevada fulfillment center in North Las Vegas. Amazon currently employs more than 1,500 full-time hourly associates at its two existing Nevada fulfillment centers in Reno and North Las Vegas, and plans to create more than 1,000 new positions at its second North Las Vegas facility.
“Our ability to expand Nevada operations is the result of two things: incredible customers and an outstanding workforce in the state,” said Akash Chauhan, Amazon’s Vice President of North American Operations. “We are excited to expand in Nevada by growing our team, creating good jobs and partnering with members of the southern Nevada community.”
“In April of last year, I was proud to be a part of the grand opening of Amazon’s Reno fulfillment center, where I was amazed by the technology, innovation and job creation Amazon brings to Nevada,” said Governor Brian Sandoval. “Today’s announcement is terrific news for our state. By continuing to expand in Nevada, Amazon is not only meeting the needs of its customers but also Nevadans by creating more than 1,000 full-time, permanent jobs, offering generous tuition assistance and a focus on veteran and military hiring.”
“This announcement is a major lift to the economy of Southern Nevada and shows the power of what can happen when our state and local governments work together,” said Jonas Peterson, CEO and President of the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance. “Our region offers a unique competitive advantage for companies looking to reach the Southwestern U.S. and take advantage of our robust highway transportation network. We’re pleased that Amazon has chosen to expand in Nevada and proud to have supported them in the process.”
