Amazon Will Bring 1,000 Jobs, New Warehouse to Atlanta Area

ATLANTA (AP) — Amazon says it will open a new warehouse facility in the Atlanta area that will create 1,000 jobs.

News outlets report Amazon and Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp made the announcement Wednesday.

Amazon will lease a built-to-suit 700,000-square-foot (65,000-square-meter) fulfillment center covering acreage in Gwinnett and DeKalb counties.

Georgia lost the bid for Amazon’s second headquarters last year but state officials are hopeful the warehouse development could be a prelude for more investment. Amazon already has a 4,000-employee workforce in Georgia that includes at least 250 tech jobs.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Amazon didn’t immediately disclose how much it will spend, but documents filed with the state suggest it could spend as much as $200 million on a facility that will produce about $1.5 million in annual tax revenue.
