Auditions Underway for the NAED Electrical Industry Band

By Scott Costa, Publisher, tED magazine

If you were at the 2014 National Meeting Closing Awards Event in San Francisco last April, you were able to witness a great event.

tED magazine celebrated its 50th anniversary.  We honored Arnold Farber for helping create, launch, maintain and publish tED magazine.  Maureen Barsema replaced Sande Rosecrans as the Chairwoman at NAED.  We honored Tammy Miller as the Hooper Achievement Award winner. It was really an amazing night in an amazing city.

In May of 2015, we are headed to Chicago for the NAED National Meeting.  But this year we want to do something so off the wall that it’s actually brilliant.  Instead of hiring a local band to entertain us after the awards are handed out, we want to hire you to entertain us.

That’s right.  You.

I have personally talked to many of you over the past 2 years, and I know that many of you have hidden musical talents. So, to paraphrase “The Blues Brothers” in their hometown of Chicago, “we’re putting the band together.”

Billed as a “one time, can’t miss performance on Monday, May 18th” NAED is calling for video auditions for lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass guitar, rhythm keyboard, drums and vocals (both male and female) to join the NAED Electrical Industry Band.

To audition, you need to follow this link http://www.naed.org/national/#tabs-2 and submit a 2 minute video of you playing “Takin’ Care of Business” by Bachman-Turner Overdrive.  The video does not have to be high quality, you can use a smart phone or tablet to record your performance.

Here’s the cool part.  Band members will have their registration fee and travel expenses paid for by NAED.  There will be a band rehearsal before the performance.  And your video audition must be submitted by February 11.

This is your chance to re-live your rock and roll dreams, along with make the NAED 2015 National Meeting a memorable experience for everyone.
