City Electric Supply Launches Renewables Division

DURHAM, N.C. — City Electric Supply has increased its support in renewables with the official launch of a residential renewables division. With 500 CES locations across the country and the support of the company’s central distribution facilities, the addition of the National Renewables division will position the company as a one-stop-shop in the residential solar market.

“There is no other distributor, to my knowledge, that focuses on solar like we do in all aspects of the industry, from utility to commercial to residential,” said National Renewable Business Development Manager Robbie McNamara.

The launch of the new division comes after the distributor’s success in the utility/large commercial segments of the renewables market with Renewable Energies Group (REG), which was established in 2016. With over 11 years of experience in the solar industry and 15 years in Electrical Distribution, McNamara and team have supplied over 8GW worth of projects nationwide from small residential/light commercial installations to utility-scale solar farms ranging from 2KW to 300MW.

“One of our best assets is our people,” said McNamara. “In my experience in this industry, people buy from people. You can’t overestimate the value of a relationship, knowledge or personal experience.”

The division makes a point to recruit individuals from within the renewable industry, whether it be the construction, financing or technology side, so they can relate to the clientele on a more personal level and better understand their needs.

“What CES has to offer in this space is a service that has been much needed for years. With the already-in-place infrastructure CES has built, it positions us perfectly to help redefine what rolls electrical distribution can play in this market,” said McNamara.

Clients around the country are now able to order residential renewable products/services at any of the 500 CES locations. The division offers a wide scale of products and services for residential/commercial rooftops and ground mount solar arrays, from multiple solar panel, inverter, racking and wire management options to value adds such as design assistance, permit ready plan sets, financing assistance and much more with some of the top vendors in the industry. The company is excited for the expansion as the industry has grown over the past decade and is forecasted to continue growing beyond the recent changes to the tax credit (ITC), which was reduced from 30 percent to 26 percent in 2020.

“Witnessing the industry grow as fast as it has in the past decade proves that renewable energy is a much-needed resource in today’s world and is here to stay despite the reduction in federal, and some local, financial assistance,” said McNamara.
