The proverb “Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” is known by many. Is it used by all.
It forces you to ask yourself as a manager how many times you have completed a task on your own because it was quicker than training someone else to do it. And, in return, are you actually helping the people around you grow in their positions?
Regular contributors to the DistributED with tED magazine podcast Desiree Grace and Andrea Olson discuss the long-term commitment to training and growth, even on the smallest of tasks, to maintain internal growth. Desiree Grace is the Vice President of Sales and Customer Care for the Americas at Mersen. Andrea Olson is an Author and Customer-Centricity Expert.
