Emerson Acquires Two Companies

ST. LOUIS – Emerson announced the acquisition of the Progea Group and the completion of its purchase of Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI Inc.).

The Progea Group is an industry-leading provider of industrial internet of things (IIoT), plant analytics, human machine interface (HMI) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) technologies.

The addition of Progea’s capabilities in analytics, industrial visualization and IIoT will build upon Emerson’s embedded software and control portfolio for manufacturing, infrastructure and building automation applications and enable customers to streamline comprehensive machine and plant control systems to a single partner. This acquisition will help bridge a critical customer technology gap by lowering total cost of ownership and reducing the barriers that come with working across multiple vendors to drive more successful digital transformation and integration.

“The acquisition of Progea strengthens our ability to provide customers with an integrated package of control, visualization and IoT to help our customers improve overall equipment efficiency and accelerate their digital transformation journey,” said Lal Karsanbhai, executive president of Emerson’s Automation Solutions business. “Progea’s capability and expertise in machine and plant-level visualization and analytics provide customers with a flexible, scalable solution for their programmable logic controller (PLC) applications in discrete and hybrid markets.”

Progea Group is headquartered in Modena, Italy, with approximately 55 employees.

Emerson also announced it has completed the purchase of Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI Inc.) for $1.6 billion in an all cash transaction. OSI Inc. is a leading operations technology software provider helping customers in the global power industry, as well as other end markets, transform and digitize operations to more seamlessly incorporate renewable energy sources and improve energy efficiency and reliability.

Emerson’s domain expertise in power generation combined with OSI Inc.’s complementary software and reach within the power transmission and distribution sectors enables the end-to-end ability to monitor, control and optimize operations in real-time across the power enterprise.

The acquisition adds to Emerson’s existing $1 billion standalone software and associated engineering implementation services portfolio. Combining OSI Inc.’s advanced modular technology with Emerson’s Ovation control system will provide utility customers with the ability to optimize energy efficiency from generation through customer delivery, enabling the broader industry goal of renewables integration and grid stability.

OSI Inc. is headquartered in Minneapolis, MN and has approximately 1,000 employees globally.
