FARGO, N.D. — Gary Miller, president of Border States Electric (BSE), retired April 1, 2014. Miller was hired in 1979 in BSE’s accounting department. He served in a variety of positions at the branch and corporate levels. He was named to BSE’s Executive Council in 1997 and joined the Board of Directors in 2005. In January 2006, he was named president. During his time as president, the company grew from a $450 million company to a $1.4 billion company.
“I feel privileged to have worked alongside so many great people throughout my career and blessed to have experienced such a successful career,” Miller said. “I will greatly miss my fellow employee-owners. We have tremendous talent and dedication on the leadership team and that makes it easy to leave, knowing the company and employee-owners are in such good hands.”
“Gary has a depth of industry experience, knowledge of our company and employees, business acumen, customer relationships and sound judgment, which we will miss,” said Tammy Miller, CEO. “Gary relentlessly worked to instill the importance of knowing what the customers needed and making sure we were profitable meeting those customer needs. He was equally passionate about maintaining our spotless reputation in the industry along with protecting the best interests of the employee-owners.”
While Miller will retire from daily duties, he will remain on the BSE Board of Directors.
BSE supplies products and services to construction, industrial and utility customers. The 100 percent employee-owned company is the ninth largest electrical distributor in the U.S. as ranked by Electrical Wholesaling magazine.
