GE Settles Patent Dispute With Siemens Gamesa

BOSTON, Mass. – GE issued the following statement regarding its previously reported wind turbine technology patent disputes with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy S.A (SGRE).:

“GE and SGRE have reached an amicable settlement of all their wind turbine technology patent disputes in the United States and Europe on confidential terms and have granted each other and their respective subsidiaries worldwide cross licenses under the asserted patent families, for the life of those patent families.”

The terms of the settlement are confidential. GE does not plan to comment further on this topic.

Reuters says, “The settlement announced [on March 31] removes an overhang on GE’s renewable business, which has struggled to turn a profit in recent quarters due to a combination of weak demand, higher raw materials and labor costs and supply-chain pressures.”

Siemens Gamesa and GE filed patent infringement complaints against each other in the United States back in 2020.
