This is an interesting scenario. I, too, was thinking to change the base. Having not seen the application, my only concern could be the temperature since LEDs doesn’t like heat and it’s not so much of an issue for fluorescent. Would be a fun one to see photos of….I haven’t seen that lamp out in the wild!
