Home Depot has expanded its offering to its professional customers by creating the Project Planning Tool, an online service that allows contractors the opportunity to oversee complex projects, order products, track orders, give delivery instructions, and price materials for estimates. The tool is the latest in a series of strategic moves by Home Depot to attract pro customers.
“Our Project Planning tool makes it easier than ever for our Pro customers to plan, purchase and monitor the status of their complex projects,” Mike Rowe, executive vice president of Pro for The Home Depot, said in a statement. “The average Pro works with 10 or more suppliers on a single job. We’re in a unique position to simplify this process and will continue to expand our digital tools to meet the evolving needs of Pros.”
The launch comes during a busy 18-month stretch for Home Depot.
In June of 2024, Home Depot completed its $18.25 billion acquisition of SRS Distribution. Home Depot described the strategic move as, “SRS complements The Home Depot’s capabilities and enables the company to better serve the complex purchase occasion, while also establishing The Home Depot as a leading specialty trade distributor across multiple verticals.”
In July of this year, SRS Distribution announced it was acquiring GMS, Gypsum Management & Supply, one of the country’s largest distributors of drywall, framing, and ceilings. The acquisition expanded the SRS reach to more than 1,200 locations, which are supported by more than 3,500 associates and 8,000 trucks. It enables SRs to complete tens of thousands of jobsite deliveries daily. The $5.5 billion deal closed one month ago.
