(IALD) Lighting designers in the state of Texas now have a professional community in which to connect and collaborate.
Advocating for lighting designers at global, regional, and local levels, the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) has established a chapter for Texas, welcoming professionals from across the populous state to participate.
Joining the association’s global network of over thirty-five regions and chapters, the IALD Texas Chapter invites interested designers to become members of the IALD community and gain access to its array of programs, events, and networking with industry colleagues worldwide.
“Texas has a booming population and economy,” says IALD President Andrea Hartranft, FIALD. “That growth means new construction in modern styles and renovation projects to fascinating historic buildings, both of which create the demand for architectural lighting design services. Talented lighting designers who can adapt to different design aesthetics and functional requirements are moving there to meet that demand.”
Three volunteer members will coordinate the new chapter: Jered E. Widmer, IALD; Anna Forrester, Assoc. IALD; and Allison Lau, Jr. Assoc. IALD.
Director of the Dallas office at The Lighting Practice, chapter coordinator Widmer anticipates an enthusiastic and engaged local community. “There are so many opportunities for a chapter serving this area to thrive,” he explains. “From lighting design programs at our universities to community presence and outreach at industry events like ArchLIGHT, to collaboration with allied organizations that recognize and value quality lighting design…the more we interact with our colleagues, the greater the advocacy for the profession to everyone’s benefit.”
