Ideal Electrical Supply Hosts 23rd Annual Golf Tournament

Untitled Document

Ideal Electrical Supply Corporation hosted The Ideal Companies 23rd Annual Golf Tournament and awarded $25,000 in scholarships to deserving local high school seniors. Students from Benjamin Banneker, McKinley Technology, Paul Lawrence Dunbar, and Washington Mathematics Science Technology High Schools were selected to receive scholarships this year.

As the cost of college tuition continues to rise, the Ideal Companies scholarships have become even more valuable. Average published tuition and fees for in‐state students in the public four‐year sector increased by $265 (2.9% before adjusting for inflation), from $9,145 in 2014-15 to $9,410 in 2015-16. Estimated average tuition and fees for full-time students in the for-profit sector increased by about $450 (3.0%), from $15,160 in 2014-15 to $15,610 in 2015-16. On June 12, 2017, more than 130 golfers and volunteers attended The Ideal Companies 23rd Annual Golf Tournament at the Belle Haven Country Club located in Alexandria, Virginia. For the past 22 years, the Ideal Companies Scholarship Fund, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization in Washington, D.C., has been assisting local high school students in achieving their higher academic goals. Through the Ideal Companies Annual Golf Tournament, funds are raised to provide college scholarships to less fortunate students. Since its inception, the Fund has provided more than $250,000 in scholarships to deserving youths.

On that day, Belle Haven welcomed representatives from PEPCO, BGE, Burndy, Ulliman Schutte, Delmarva Power, Clark Construction, and many other businesses to enjoy a “day on the green.” What a day it was! The weather was gorgeous and the event was fun filled. We started the day with a delicious summer lunch and concluded the evening with a scrumptious buffet that the Belle Haven staff so eloquently provided. We all concluded that we wish that every Monday can be spent that way. Luckily for IDEAL, once a year in June, you can expect for it to be this way as they continue to host their Golf Tournament Scholarship Fundraiser. This event was a perfect example of the business sector using its influence to foster change, make a difference, and give back to the community.

The Metropolitan Washington community, including several local businesses and organizations, has greatly supported the efforts of the Ideal Companies Scholarship Fund to provide generous scholarships to its recipients.

The annual golf event is held at the Belle Haven Country Club in Alexandria, Virginia. The Belle Haven Country Club has been in the community since the 1920s and has grown with Alexandria throughout the 20th century. Today Belle Haven is well-known for its 18-hole golf course designed by renowned architect Arthur Hills.

The golf event follows the scramble format and features putting, closest-to-the-pin, longest drive and hole-in-one contests. In addition to this, a silent auction is also provided. The proceeds of all auction items, i.e. professional sporting tickets, fine dining, original artwork and sports artifacts, benefit the Ideal Companies Scholarship Fund.

IDEAL's 24th annual golf tournament and scholarship fundraiser will take place in June of 2018. More details will follow as they become available.
