Jackson, MS — For 30 years, Irby, a subsidiary of Sonepar USA, has been a proud sponsor of Pecan Park Elementary School, located in Jackson, MS. Over 500 pre-school and elementary students attend the school. Irby has supported Pecan Park School by funding renovations to the facility, the playground and the surrounding park. Funds also go toward awards for student academic achievement, gifts for Teacher Appreciation Day, and for general school supplies. During the school year, Irby employees donate their time to visit the school and read books to the children during reading fairs.
Michelle Obama visited the school to promote the “Let’s Move Initiative.” Thirty of these students were subsequently invited to the White House for the annual Easter Egg Roll, with Irby funding a portion of the cost of the trip.
In September, 2013, Irby received the Golden Achievement Award in recognition of and appreciation for developing an outstanding Adopt-A-School Partnership for 30 years! Irby will continue to support Pecan Park Elementary School for many years to come.
Mike Wigton, President of Irby said, “Irby is honored to have partnered with Pecan Park for the past 30 years. It has been a mutually beneficial arrangement. Not only do we help the school fund various activities and needs, but our employees also get to see the children grow and develop their skills. We definitely plan to continue this tradition in the years to come.”Tagged with tED
